WASHINGTON, DC -- At School...Tribal Chic, Howard University

Summer is literally at our door step, knocking and wanting to be let in. The transition into a season that boasts a plethora of looks, colors, and moods can be an easy surmount for some and difficult for others. Trends may help frame how you should approach the upcoming season, but if you have a confident, personal style then working those trends into a unique concoction will be no problem. Take the lovely lady above (she's a familiar face). This has got to be the most creative take on the tribal/ethnic trend that's set to blossom this summer. The layered bracelets and necklace adds a bold, textural contrast to warm colors that define summery, ethnic look.

But please peep her stockings! By incorporating a very original take on the animal skin prints, she goes above-and-beyond the routine tribal look. The run-of-the-mill snake skin clutch or shoes is the safest bet for most, but she opts otherwise and executes it brilliantly!

I'm dying to know how you define 'creative', Chike. Do you have a working definition or is it something intuitive? Because I'm looking at this outfit and I don't see creative, and I understand that we can have different perspectives. I'm just curious to know what works for you and why.

Thanks in advance!

thanks for the anonymous 21:31...well what sparks creativity here is the leopard stockings. They are not the most conservative pair of stockings you'd wear on the average day. Moreover, how she paired it with a complementary outfit and look adds originality of expression.

You could very well wear a pair of leopard print stockings, but what you wear it with is equally as important in order to create a cohesive look. I see creativity. What do you see?

Cheers

Do you know where she got her stockings or where to find similar ones? I need a pair pronto! The look...is a bit sloppy. Can't say I'm feeling the fugg boots But she does seems comfortable and "creative" in her individual style.

LOL...this has got to be the most commented post on here! Thank you all. The reception has been quite strong on the negative end of the spectrum! I appreciate all your critiques...it works for some and not for others. Thanks for all your comments. Please lament on what you like about other pictures too. Pulling positives pieces or items from a look can enhance your style all the more than deprecating it without giving the bits and pieces that make up the outfit much thought. I agree the overall look is not so polished, but I guess I pay more attention to the individual pieces of an outfit that can extend a look beyond everyday hum drum of fashion. Its lovely to come across someone who has got it right stylistically from head to toe, but sometimes there are moments where you just love a clutch or love a shoe or love the accent of rouching on the sleeves of a blouse. The whole look might be off, but something caught your eye that left you say like "xxx" wanting to know where to get those leopard print stockings.

thank you all...

Wonderfully said! ; ) Just love the fact that you pay so much attention to the most subtle detail in what may appear to some as a "hot mess".
